Matthew CHAPTER ONE
Mt 1:1 ¶ The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
The Generation of Jesus Christ
Introduction
Generation means genealogy or descendant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord did not just appear suddenly from nowhere. His birth was prophesied several hundred years before its occurrence. (Isaiah 9:6)
Outline
I. The meaning of His name: “Jesus Christ” - Jesus means Savior, and Christ means the Chosen One. Therefore, Jesus Christ means the Chosen Savior of Sinners. There is no other savior that can save man from the power, penalty, and presence of sin except in the power of Jesus Christ.
He offered Himself as the Sacrifice for our sins. In other words, He paid our sins on the cross to cleanse us from our sins to qualify us to heaven. (Romans 5:8). There is no other name that can save sinners from eternal hell except in the name of Jesus Christ. (Acts 4:12)
II. He was – ”the Son of David:”
He had a kingly lineage. David was a king of Israel. Jesus has the rightful inheritance of the throne of David. (John 7:42) Someday in the near future, Jesus Christ will restore the throne of David upon this earth visibly. (Acts 2:30-31)
III. He was – “the son of Abraham.”
He was a descendant of Abraham. The Jews were looking for the Messiah that would be descended from him. Therefore, the genealogy of the Lord was traced up to Abraham also. Although Jesus was born in a manger, yet, his pedigree was that of a nobility from King David, and of an illustrative from the Father of the faithful, Abraham.
Conclusion
The all wise God developed the nation of Israel through the molding of the character of Abraham with a greater faith, and established His chosen nation through him. Through this chosen nation, God will incarnate Himself in Jesus Christ to save mankind from his fall from sin.
God also raised up a righteous king in the nation of Israel name David. This king was called “a man after God’s own heart.” Through this king also, the Lord Jesus Christ will emerge and become part His genealogy.
From a faithful man and a righteous king, the Lord Jesus Christ was descended.
Therefore, to accept Him as the king of our life, it would be the greatest and blissful decision of our life upon this temporal world. "Oh Lord Jesus Christ reign in our life forever that we may follow thy righteous instructions through the paths of happiness."
